Chocolate Martini

This is another easy cocktail to throw together, eminently suitable for the holiday season. I’m not usually big on rimmed drinks because they’re a bit of a hassle, quite frankly, but Christmas is exactly the time to put in just a tiny little bit of extra effort.

This chocolate martini requires only two ingredients to be shaken together: 2 oz of vodka and 1-1/2 oz of crème de cacao. I had hoped to use an artisan crème de cacao after reading about them, but alas, there were none to be found in my area so I used Dekuyper and it tasted great.

The chocolate rim and Hershey’s hug is something I saw in a magazine years ago and always stuck with me. It’s a fun way to fancy up what is really a pretty simple drink.

To do the rim I poured a smidge of vodka onto a plate and piled some cocoa powder onto another, dipping the glass first in the liquid then the powder. Simple, yet surprisingly, adds a nice bit of chocolate taste to the drink.

This would make a delicious dessert with a plate of store bought biscuits and maybe a little dish of leftover hugs.
