~Apparently black dogs and cats get a bad rap. This article hopes to change that. Beautiful photographs, hilarious commentary.
~The New York Times posted this little gem of heresy. Rebuttals here. Recipe here.
~Fun video from the Hong Kong Ballet. Unfortunately, I can never hear Ravel’s Bolero without playing the entirety of Torvill and Dean’s mesmerizing ice dance in my head. Just me?
~I struggle to find decent yogurt at the supermarket, but these two have proven to be winners. Noosa is dessert worthy.
~Equity vs Equality. A small but mighty subtlety.
~Two shows on Sundance:
The Split Nicola Walker (all glammed up like you’ve never seen her before) plays Hannah, a high end divorce lawyer who splits from the family firm when her mother refuses to step down and let her take over as promised. Consequently, when she joins a new firm she frequently finds herself going head to head with her sister and mother. Divorce drama meets family drama. The supporting cast of actors is stellar, the writing is witty and heartfelt and though it can be clunky at times, the show is worth watching just for Walker. Because shows always are.
Riviera Julia Stiles plays Georgina in this ultra glam and ultra glossy production. Exotic locations, to-die-for outfits, expensive cars, this is conspiracy thriller meets dysfunctional family. Boom! And this one quite literally starts with a bang, when Georgina’s husband, Constantine, dies when a yacht explodes. Unfortunately, the show feels thin and reminded me of a poor man’s Night Manager...all the glamour but none of the heft. Having said that, sometimes this is just the kind of mindless entertainment that’s needed.
~Also, The Bodyguard on Netflix. Surprisingly, I wasn’t absolutely crazy about this show, despite all its fab reviews and Richard Madden doesn’t really do anything for me despite all his accolades. It’s written by Jed Mercurio of the brilliant Line of Duty, but while The Bodyguard does have tension and twisty bits, it all felt a little forced. However, don’t let my opinion sway you…it was one of the most watched TV shows in Britain in 2018.
